According to NATO's strategic vision, Smart Defence seeks to stimulate synergies and foster Allied Nations cooperative efforts, in order to ensure the development, acquisition and maintenance of the necessary military capabilities. Smart Defence is thus assumed by NATO as a way of non-duplication and integration of national capability development initiatives (just like Pooling & Sharing), capable of allowing a better prioritization and coordination of efforts between NATO and Allied Nations.

Cyber resilience and preparedness are major tasks for NATO and EU operations and missions, where Cyber Security and Cyber Defence are closely connected as they address the same threats, requiring life-long learning, following the same basic principles and requiring similar measures and procedures. The illiterate of the 21st Century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.

Building upon the encouraging results of the latest NATO CD SDP Conference, the 5th edition will represent an unusual opportunity to explore new ideas: from harmonising requirements to delivering operational capabilities; from research and innovation to transformation; from education, training and exercises to maintenance and support for operations, and reinforcing the NATO-EU complementarity of efforts on the field of Cyber Security and Cyber Defence.

The conference themes and highlights will be discussed by an audience of policy-makers, decision-makers from military, academia and industry, senior officials coming from Nations and from International Organizations as well as other interested parties. Participation of Industry and Academia is envisaged.

The conference starts on 16 May 2019 at 09:00 and it ends at 17:00.

Agendas of the events will be announced soon. However, if you need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact the organizing Committee: or at
